The new album by Assynt was reviewed on Caledon Radio This instrumental album (no songs) has a modern approach to a number of traditional tunes and also exhibits some of the band’s own compositions, inspired by the culture and landscape of the Highlands, particularly the area where the band’s name originated, Assynt. A free flowing fiddle expertly played by Graham MacKenzie interlinks with the pipes and whistles of David Shedden who is playing at his best ever on this album. What really binds the whole project together however is the Guitar playing of Innes White who knows almost instinctively when to whether add delicate chord runs or when a bit more is needed never ever smothering the tunes. Added on as a fourth member is the ubiquitous Charlie Stewart on Bass which certainly gives a bit of depth to the music. Scottish to its core ‘Where From Here’ proves that we do not have to look far for music to get our emotions on fire
